Distribution of children's apparel sales in Italy 2023, by distribution channel

In 2023, chains and franchising stores dominated the children’s apparel market in Italy, with a share of nearly 50 percent in terms of sales. Supermarkets came second, with a market share of about 30 percent of the total domestic consumption, which amounted to roughly four billion euros.

Increasing production and turnover

With reference to the value of production, a variable that attempts to quantify the production activity carried out in Italy, was estimated to reach a value of 935 million euros in 2023, showing a slight decrease compared to the previous year. On the other hand, an children's apparel turnover was projected to remain quite similar to the previous couple of years.

Looking abroad

Looking at the performance across borders, the average annual growth of exports of junior fashion from Italy was estimated to increase slightly in 2023, reaching a value of 1.49 billion euros. In general, exports were estimated to account for nearly 50 percent of the sector's turnover, growing by approximately seven percentage points since 2018.
