In 2020, the number of passengers who traveled on international flights from and to Italy amounted to almost 27.7 million. This represented a considerable year-on-year decrease of around 78.3 percent amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During the same year, the continent with the highest flow of passengers from and to Italy outside Europe was Africa, with 1.15 million.
