Arrivals of international tourists in the UAE 2012-2022
The number of international tourists arriving to the United Arab Emirates increased in 2022, amounting to approximately 22 million people. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated several plans to encourage the travel and tourism sector, including the Dubai Tourism Strategy 2020.
Tourist attractions
The most visited Emirati city is Dubai. The top tourist destinations in Dubai include Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world since 2009, and Dubai Miracle Garden. Most visitors to Dubai were from western Europe.
Tourism and the economy
The tourism sector has been contributing to the employment in UAE at more than five percent of total employment. Forecasts show that employment in the travel and tourism sector will benefit about 400 thousand people in 2028. Visitor exports was the main tourism contributor to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the UAE. Investments in the travel and tourism sector was expected to rise over the following years.
