As of the fourth quarter of 2022, MTN held a majority of the share of mobile subscriptions in Uganda with around 54 percent. Airtel has retained the second-highest share of wireless subscriptions over the given period from 2015 to 2022 with a steady 33 percent since 2016, which began increasing in 2020 to reach 42 percent as of 2022. Africell, which had around 11 percent of mobile subscriptions in Uganda by the fourth quarter of 2020, ceased operations and exited the country in 2021.
