Retail sales value of department stores in Japan 2013-2022
In 2022, the retail sales value of department stores in Japan amounted to around 5.5 trillion Japanese yen, continuing the recovery following the lifting of restriction related to the coronavirus pandemic. While the number of department stores in operation declined steadily within the last decade, retail sales remained stable above six trillion yen prior to the pandemic.
