In fiscal year 2020, the motor vehicles tax and fee revenue generated by the state governments across India amounted to around 715 billion Indian rupees. In 2019, about 83 percent of the tax revenue was generated from high speed diesel and motor spirit by the central government. Road tax across the country continued to stay above the goods and services tax.
