Number of sushi businesses in Norway 2006-2016

In the period from 2006 to 2016, the number of sushi restaurants and sushi catering businesses in Norway grew strongly. It increased by more than 200 businesses and amounted to a number of 340 sushi restaurants/ caterings by the end of this period. In this year, the domestic food service sector generated a revenue of almost 1.8 billion Norwegian kroner, of which 721 million Norwegian kroner were from the sushi sales within this industry.

Sushi sales in grocery stores

    In Norwegian grocery and convenience stores, the sales value of sushi was highest in 2014, when it peaked at 200 million Norwegian kroner. In the following two years, the revenue generated from sushi sales decreased to 128 million Norwegian kroner.

 Consumption per Norwegian

    In 2016, the sushi consumption per person was highest in Eastern Norway as it valued at 185 Norwegian kroner per capita. In Trøndelag, the central part of the country, the consumption of sushi had an amount of 104 Norwegian kroner per person and in Western Norway, it was 98 Norwegian kroner.
