The number of registered vehicles across Hyderabad in India was over 3.24 million at the end of fiscal year 2020. The city of Nawabs is the shared capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is also densely populated, ranking fourth across the south Asian country, which correlates directly to the high car density.

Automotive market in India

Being one of the largest automotive sectors across Asia, India had over 295 million registered vehicles in 2019. Recently however, electric vehicles have gained popularity in the country. Two-wheelers dominate the Indian vehicle market. The number of electric two-wheelers across the country was estimated to cross 26 million in 2030, whereas the non-electric two-wheelers were expected to become obsolete for the same time period.

Constraints

Despite their popularity, certain challenges are likely to determine the future of electric vehicles across the nation. Lack of charging stations was a major reason for not purchasing an electric vehicle in 2019. Production of the vehicles has also been dominated by the unorganized sectors. However, incentives from the government, such as reduced taxes on electric vehicle purchase and increased infrastructure within the segment seek to overcome these constraints and burgeon the e-mobility sector in the country.
