Number of visitors to Pride Amsterdam 2011-2019

Pride Amsterdam attracted approximately 550 thousand visitors in 2018 and 2019, a decrease over 2017 when the festival welcomed about 680 thousand people. Pride Amsterdam usually spans a week of various activities for the LGBTI community, but it is especially famous for the canal parade held on the first Saturday of August. According to a survey on the influence of this Canal Parade on the acceptance of homosexuality in the Netherlands in 2017, 45 percent of the LGBTI community indicated that it has no positive nor a negative influence, whereas a little over 30 percent mentioned that the Pride mainly had a negative effect.

Total same-sex marriages

Regarding the number of same-sex marriages in the Netherlands in 2019, a total of 1,419 marriages were registered. 675 of these marriages were between men, whereas 744 were between women. This is for both genders a decrease over the previous year.

Positive attitudes towards homosexuality

The share of individuals who are positive towards homosexuality in the Netherlands increased steadily between 2002 and 2016. In 2002, 88 percent stood positive towards homosexuality, whereas by 2016 this increased to 95 percent of the people.
