In 2017, the revenue per available room (revPar) in Paris fell to 170 euros. However, a recovery was likely to happen in the next two years, with revPar expected to reach 188 euros in 2019. The French capital had more than 2,000 hotels, which welcome international as well as domestic tourists and make Paris one of the most visited cities worldwide.
The hotel industry in Paris
The revenue per available room is a metric performance used in the hotel industry. It can be calculated in two ways: multiplying a hotel’s average daily room rate by its occupancy rate or dividing a hotel’s total room revenue by the total number of available rooms in a given period. Thus, it appears that compared to figures for other leading city destinations in the European hotel market, Paris still ranks as one of the highest in terms of revPar. Despite a decrease in attendance after the 2015 terrorist attacks, hotels in Paris had an occupancy rate of nearly 80 percent in 2019.
Paris: a popular destination in Europe
In 2017, Paris was the second leading European city tourism destination by number of bednights. The French capital was ahead of London which accounted for around 80 million bednights that same year. One year later in 2018, 35 millions of arrivals were recorded at Parisian hotels, an increase compared to previous years. If Paris keeps being behind London when it comes to be Europe’s top city destination, France received a Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index score of 5.32 out of 7. Only Spain got a better index that year in Europe.
