Household mean monthly consumption expenditure in Italy 2008-2020
In 2020, the average monthly consumption expenditure of Italian households amounted to 2,328 euros, the lowest amount over the last years. The total annual consumption expenditure was 958 billion euros. This figure represented a decrease compared to 2019.
Personal care matters to Italians
Interestingly enough, despite the economic crisis and the overall decline in households’ consumption expenditure, Italians seemed to invest more and more on their personal care. In fact, this expenditure category increased steadily since 2008 and reached a value of over 26 billion euros in 2018.
Financial services can be sacrificed
On the other hand, among the expenditure categories that seemed to have been sacrificed by Italian, financial services saw a significant decline. Italian households’ consumption expenditure on financial services amounted to almost 30 billion euros in 2008 and decreased to 19.4 billion euros in 2018.
