In 2022, the quantity of municipal waste collected for landfills in Italy totaled 5.17 million metric tons. The south of the country accounted for the largest share of this volume, with over two million metric tons in 2022. Nevertheless, the volume of waste collected in the South has decreased annually, having totaled more than four million metric tons in 2015.
