Total road freight transport in the Netherlands 2010-2018

As of 2018, approximately 760 million tons of freight was transported by road in the Netherlands. It is an increase compared to the previous year and the highest freight transport in tons in the period between 2010 and 2018. The cross-border road freight imports and exports had a similar development. In 2017, imported freight amounted to 97 million tons, whereas exports had a total of 104 million tons of freight.

Maritime freight in the Netherlands

The total maritime freight transport increased in 2017 to a total of 596 million tons, whereas in 2016 this amounted to 589 million tons. The total inland waterway freight had a slight increase as well, with 311 million tons of inland freight in 2016 and 314 million tons in 2017. However, the highest reached inland waterway freight that was transported in the Netherlands, which occurred in 2014 with 316 million tons.

Largest transport companies in the Netherlands

Raben Group had a revenue of roughly 1.14 billion euros, resulting in a number one ranking on the largest transport companies in the Netherlands based on revenues. Ewals Cargo One, a Dutch transport company with branches over 18 countries, had a revenue of 600 million euros and was ranked second.
