Total subsidies allocated to the performing arts industry in the Netherlands were significantly higher in 2020 and 2021 compared to the previous years, most likely to compensate for the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. While total grants assigned to this industry declined by roughly 15 percent in 2022 over the previous year, they remained higher than in pre-pandemic levels, amounting to nearly 432 million euros.
