Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the passenger capacity of European commercial airlines declined by 62 percent compared to the pre-pandemic year, 2019. In the following years, passenger traffic grew in Europe. In particular, in 2022, the year-on-year passenger capacity change of system-wide commercial airlines in Europe was estimated to be 70 percent more than the previous year's capacity. It was also forecast to grow by almost 19 percent in 2023 and nine percent in 2024.
