In Italy, big grocery retail chains account for the nearly half of organic sales. In the first seven months of 2023, grocery retail chains generated just under two billion euros sales from organic food products. Other hyper- and supermarkets followed with 1.5 billion euros sales. E-commerce sales contributed to 64 million euros out of the total organic food retail market.
