Over four million Indian farmers were insured under the government's scheme for Kharif crops in 2018. This number was a decrease in the number of insured farmers for the crop in the previous year in the south Asian country.
Kharif crops are monsoon crops which are cultivated and harvested during the rainy season in India. Monsoon in India is between April and October depending on the region. Rice, millets and maize are examples of Kharif crops.
