The aging index refers to the number of the elderly aged 65 years and over per 100 individuals younger than 14 years old in a specific population. Thus, the higher the index is, the older the population results. According to estimates for 2024, in Italy, there are two elderly people for every young individual. Between 2010 and 2024, this figure increased steadily.
