In 2023, the average price for a new petrol car was approximately 35,900 euros in the Netherlands. Passenger cars with hydrogen-electric fuel cells were the second most expensive, costing 76,700 euros on average.
Segments
Across all segments, the large luxury car segment came with the highest price tag, costing nearly 299,900 euros on average. Mini cars can be found at the other end of the price spectrum. In 2023, their average was at just under 20,700 euros.
Efforts to go green
The Dutch government promotes zero-emission vehicles, mainly all-electric vehicles but also plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and vehicles with hydrogen electric fuel cells. As a result of these efforts, the share of electric passenger car sales rose to almost 43.4 percent in 2023.
