The household consumption of hospitality services in Portugal declined to roughly 12 billion euros in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the previous year, the expenditure of Portuguese households on restaurants and hotels had increased by over 60 percent. In 2022, expenditure rose to around 25 billion euros, above pre-pandemic values.
