In 2023, approximately 32 percent of the population borrowed books in Finland. This was roughly 5.5 percent less than in 2013. The general downward trend slowed down in 2018, when the share of people borrowing books started to increase again. However, there was a considerable decrease in physical library visits due to the COVID-19 restrictions since 2020.
