The statistic displays the regions with the lowest rural poverty population across India in 2011-12, distributed by states and union territories. With 1.57 percent of its population living under the poverty line, the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands had the lowest rural poverty share that year, followed by the union territory of Chandigarh with over 1.6 percent of its rural population living in poverty.

Note: Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu did not report any rural population living in poverty during that time period.
Poverty line was calculated with the Mixed Reference Period method (MRP) which measures consumption of five low-frequency items (clothing, footwear, durables, education and institutional health expenditure) over a one year period, and all other items over the previous 30 days.
