In 2019, the number of new cases of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) diagnosed in Germany was 74, this was a drastic fall from the previous years. The number of cases has fallen annually since 2013.
HIV in Germany
AIDS is the advanced stage of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The cases of HIV in Germany has actually increased over the same time period that the number of AIDS cases were decreasing. Going from approximately 2.6 thousand cases in 2006 to over 3.2 thousand in 2022.
European situation
Among both genders, the number of new AIDS cases has been generally decreasing in Europe between 2008 and 2022. Additionally, over the same time period, the number of deaths due to AIDS has fallen in Europe, totaling 767 cases in 2022.
