Landline telephone ownership rate in households in Denmark 2008-2022

Fewer and fewer Danish households had landline telephones over the past decade, reaching only 10 percent as of 2022. This was a dramatic decrease compared to the start of the evaluated period – 2008, when as many as 76 percent of households in Denmark owned landline telephones. When observing the evolution of fixed telephone lines worldwide since 2000, it can be seen that the peak was reached in 2006. That year, there were nearly 1.3 billion fixed phones. After increasing steadily from 2000 to 2006, the number of owned fixed phones started decreasing gradually, reaching less than one billion in 2017. 915 fixed telephone lines were estimated to have been owned in 2019 worldwide.

 Danish telecom companies 

  The telecommunication company with the largest revenue in Denmark as of July 2020 was the Norwegian multinational provider Telenor AS. The company reached a revenue of nearly four billion Danish kroner that year and was followed by HI3G Denmark ApS, with a revenue of 2.71 billion Danish kroner. All the other telecom providers in the country, including Tt-Netværket, Eltel, T-Systems Nordic, and others, had registered smaller revenues.

  The total revenue of the leading telecom provider in Denmark, Telenor Group peaked in 2015, amounting to over 13 billion euros. The revenue gradually decreased after that year and equaled over 10 billion Norwegian kroner in 2021. Telenor operates in the Scandinavian countries and Finland, in selected Asian countries, and in selected Eastern European countries.
