The number of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners in South Korea increased by 1.2 scanners per one million inhabitants (+3.5 percent) in 2021. Therefore, the number of MRI scanners in South Korea reached a peak in 2021 with 35.48 scanners per one million inhabitants. Notably, the number of MRI scanners continuously increased over the last years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses magnetic/electromagnetic fields combined with an induced resonance effect of hydrogen atoms. The result is a visualization of internal organs and body structures. MRI does not use x-rays or ionizing radiation which distinguishes it from CT and PET scans.
