Jumbo is the second largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, with a market share of just under 22 percent. According to the most recent count, there were 712 Jumbo supermarkets in the country. Only Albert Heijn had more supermarkets.

The majority of the Jumbo supermarkets in the Netherlands are franchise supermarkets. Between 2010 and 2020, the number of independent supermarkets belonging to the chain grew rapidly, from just 40 in 2010 to 365 in 2020. By comparison, that year Jumbo had 322 subsidiary supermarkets.
Jumbo’s customer base
Jumbo is especially popular among larger households. In 2021, Jumbo reached a penetration rate of 49.2 percent in the Netherlands. Among the one-person households Jumbo’s penetration rate was under 44 percent, whereas among the four-person households this was 53 percent.
