Eggs are the most profitable organic food product in Italy

If considering the organic food products with the highest sales value on the Italian market, the scenario changes. As of June 2019, eggs were the most profitable organic food in Italy, generating sales for roughly 96 million euros. That was approximately five times more than the sales value of organic flour over the same period.

Sales of organic food products in Italy are increasing

Overall, the organic food products’ sector in Italy grew in importance in the last few years. In fact, the share of organic sales on the total turnover of the food industry more than doubled from 2010 to 2018. Furthermore, if looking at the figures generated by this sector in different distribution channels, supermarkets registered the greatest sales value in 2019. However, discounts registered the highest growth rate in sales revenues of organic food among all distribution channels.
