Economically active population Qatar 2009-2019, by gender

In 2019, the number of economically active males in Qatar reached more than 1.8 million. In contrast, the number of their female counterparts amounted to around 284 thousand. The economically active population is the sum of employed and unemployed individuals aged 15 years and older.

The total number of males living in Qatar reached around two million in 2019, while the female population was around a third of the male population. Similar to other countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Qatar has a youthful population with the median age group ranging between 25 and 29 years old as of 2019.  

 Workforce figures 

The female labor force participation in the MENA region remains lower than the global average. In Qatar, the labor force participation rate reached around 37 percent among females, compared to around 68 percent among males in 2018.The income in Qatar is tax-free, which makes net income relatively high. The average monthly wage of males reached around 12 thousand Qatari riyals in 2020.
