Bluetooth speakers sales in the United States 2013-2018

In 2018, an estimated 1.96 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of Bluetooth-only speakers were sold in the U.S. retail market. This 2018 estimate places the total market sales figure around 160 million U.S. dollars shy of its 2017 figure, as Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth speakers gain market share.

Wireless speakers

Bluetooth speakers fall under the more general category of wireless speakers, which also include Wi-Fi speakers, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth speakers and smart Wi-Fi speakers. The prevalence and popularity of Bluetooth-enabled speakers has grown rapidly since the technology first entered mainstream consumer use. Tens of millions of Bluetooth speakers are sold in the U.S. each year, with cheaper devices being the most popular option by far among consumers. Prices for these speakers typically range from as low as 25 U.S. dollars to over 200 at the luxury end of the spectrum, and they come in a variety of different types such as waterproof and rugged. Smart wireless speakers, which are usually both Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-enabled, are projected to gain greater market share – of the 71 million wireless speakers forecast to be sold in 2019, around 44 million of them will be smart speakers.
