In Norway, smartphones started becoming popular in the 2000s and annual unit sales of such phones started growing very quickly: from about 700,000 units in 2009 to an all-time high of nearly 2.2 million in 2013. After 2013, sales of smartphones in Norway fluctuated but clearly showed a downward trend: in 2022, less than 1.4 million smartphone devices had been sold. From 2018 onwards, virtually all mobile phones sold in the country were smartphones.
