This statistic shows tactics that U.S. hospitals use to minimize avoidable emergency department visits, according to a survey conducted among hospital and health system representatives during February 2016. It was found that 56 percent of surveyed organizations reported limiting prescriptions for opioids in an attempt to avoid unnecessary emergency room visits.
