In 2018, there were 49,200 girls aged 2 to 4 years old in Australia who were considered to be obese. This is the only age group in which girls outnumber boys in obesity numbers. By age 16 to 17 years the number of children of either gender who were obese dropped to below 30,000.

Values for females aged 8-11 and 16-17 has a relative standard error of 25% to 50% and should be used with caution.
Values for males aged 16-17 has a relative standard error of 25% to 50% and should be used with caution.
Study measures include the voluntary measurements of height, weight and waist circumference of respondents aged 2 years and over.
The Body Mass Index (BMI) for children was used to define whether children were obese.
