Overseas affiliates investment ratio of the manufacturing industry Japan FY 2012-2021

In the fiscal year 2021, the capital investment value in overseas affiliates of Japanese businesses in the manufacturing industry accounted for 29.4 percent of their total (domestic and overseas) investments. The capital investment ratio in overseas affiliated companies rose from 19.4 percent in the previous fiscal year.

Ratio of overseas capital investment = amount of capital investment in overseas affiliates / (amount of capital investment in overseas affiliates + amount of capital investment in domestic companies) × 100.

Foreign affiliates are defined as:

1.) A foreign affiliate in which a Japanese corporation has invested capital of 10 percent or more.<br>

2.) A foreign affiliate in which a "subsidiary," funded more than 50 percent by a Japanese corporation, has invested capital of more than 50 percent.<br>

3.) A foreign affiliate in which a Japanese corporation and a subsidiary funded more than 50 percent by a Japanese corporation have invested capital of more than 50 percent.
