The number of cars in the Italian city of Rome amounted to 1.8 million in 2017, a decrease compared to the number of cars in 2011. Despite this decreasing trend, the citizens of Rome seem to have an interest in cars and in car sharing platforms.
Car sharing platforms
A survey highlighted the usage of car sharing platforms such as Iniziativa Car Sharing (ICS) and Car2Go in Rome. According to the figures, 25 percent of the respondents used car sharing platforms between one and 11 times per year. Only six percent of the respondents used car sharing services between 52 and 364 times per year.
Time slots
The time of the day when car2go services were mostly used was after six pm, while ICS services were used mostly between six am and one pm. Lastly, it seemed that car sharing services were a valid alternative to private and public transport within urban areas.
