Passenger-distance of railway transportation in Japan FY 2014-2023
In the fiscal year 2023, the passenger-distance of domestic railway transportation in Japan amounted to around 393.71 billion passenger-kilometers, increasing from approximately 352.85 billion in the preceding fiscal year. Railroad transport is Japan's major mass transit system, encompassing anything from local trams to high-speed inter-city railway lines, such as the Japanese bullet train, also known as Shinkansen.
