In 2021, the advertising industry in South Korea posted a sales revenue of around 18.9 trillion South Korean won. The largest share of this came from the online advertising sector, which recorded a revenue of about 7.2 trillion won.
Online advertising in South Korea
The online advertising sector in South Korea has been steadily growing over the past few years. It first overtook the historically most successful medium, broadcast advertising, in 2019. Within the medium of online advertising, mobile advertising recently overtook the internet advertising sector in terms of revenue. Mobile advertising is split into search-based and display advertising, with the latter bringing in slightly more revenue than the former.
Broadcast advertising in South Korea
Up until 2019, broadcast media brought in the largest share of revenue within the advertising industry. Advertising on cable television made up over half of revenue generated from advertising on different broadcasting formats. The majority of revenue generated stemmed from advertisements formats that are worked directly into the ongoing television programming.
