ISIS in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was the terrorist organization that stood behind the highest number of deaths in the world in 2022, killing nearly 1,600 people. Al-Shabab, which is active in Somalia, followed behind with 1,342 deaths. Other ISIS organizations such as those within Iraq and Syria, the Greater Sahara, West Africa, Mozambique, the Khorasan Province, and the Sinai Province are also within the top ten terrorist organizations with the highest number of fatalities.
