In 2021, there were 562 public hospitals with a department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Italy. Among these, in 355 facilities it was possible to perform voluntary interruptions of pregnancy, corresponding to 59.6 percent of the hospitals. This statistic show regional differences in this figure. According to the data, the share of public hospitals performing this medical procedure was much lower in Southern regions compared to Northern or Central ones, except for the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano which also are among the regions with the lowest rates. This graph shows the share of public hospitals, among the ones having a department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, performing voluntary interruption of pregnancies in Italy as of 2021.
