Monthly overnights at camps by type Netherlands 2022

In 2022, August was the busiest month for camping grounds and cottage areas in the Netherlands. Overall, there were close to seven million guests at Dutch camping grounds in August 2022, with cottage areas welcoming about 6.4 million visitors in this period. Meanwhile, July was the busiest month for other forms of group accommodation, with roughly 618 thousand guests reported for other types of accommodation in July 2022.

The source defines the different camp sites, as follows:

Camping ground: "A tourist sleeping area, where the night can be spent in tents, caravans, campers, tent cabins, or hiking cabins." The source notes this data concerns locations "with at least four tourists sites."

Cottage area: "An area with summer cabins, mobile homes, (holiday) bungalows or (holiday) apartments, which are available for rent by the manager of the complex." This includes: "apartments for rent, as part of a larger building", but excludes: apartment for rent with hotel service.

Group accommodation: "Accommodations with overnight provision to groups (without family ties), with a sleeping area in rooms, halls, cabins, apartments, and/or tents which the guests may or may not share with strangers." This includes: camping farms, children's holiday homes, camp homes, scouting homes, nature bungalows, tent camps, overnight accommodation belonging to a water sports center or riding school.
