Meat production in the Netherlands 2010-2021
In 2021, meat production in the Netherlands amounted to roughly 3.5 million metric tons. This was a slight decrease in comparison to the previous year. In 2021, the country reached a self-sufficiently rate for fresh meat of nearly 260 percent, meaning the Netherlands produced much more meat than its inhabitants consumed.
Pork most popular meat
Of the meat produced in the Netherlands, the majority consisted of pork. In 2021, the pork production volume was nearly two million tons, or just over half of the total meat production. By comparison, the total production of sheep and goat meat amounted to just 19,000 tons.
Pork farms
The roughly two million tons of pork produced in the Netherlands was the responsibility of some 3,400 companies with pigs. Between them, these companies had roughly 11.5 million animals, or an average of roughly 3,365 pigs per farm. In the last decade, the number of pigs per company more than doubled.
