This graph illustrates the number of U.S. cars affected by Takata air bag recalls from 2011 to 2015. In 2013, around 3.8 million cars were recalled after one man lost his life when he was struck by a piece of metal that was blown out of a defunct air bag as it deployed. As of October 21, 2016, 11 people have died due to Takata's defective air bag inflators.
