Domestic unit shipments of consumer electronics Japan 2023
Roughly 20 million car speakers were shipped domestically in Japan in 2023, which represented a decrease of 2.6 percent compared to the previous year. Flat-panel-display TVs followed with a domestic shipment volume of about 4.4 million units.
Shipment volume growth rate
When it comes to the annual growth rate of major consumer electronic equipment, vehicle DSRC units recorded the highest growth rate, with a shipment volume increase of 4.2 percent compared to the previous year. Although in previous years the car-related electronics performed relatively well, this year, the only other category recording some growth was system audio with 1.4 percent.
Flat-panel-display TVs
Despite a significant decrease in shipments compared to the early 2010s, flat-screen TVs have remained one of the main types of consumer electronic equipment shipped in the country. 4K resolution TVs and hybridcast TVs shared around the same amount of the domestic shipment volume in 2022. Hybridcast TV is developed by the Japanese national broadcasting corporation NHK and provides a service which combines broadcasting with the internet. With Hybridcast TVs, consumers can access the internet for related information simultaneously with the program broadcasting. Some leading Japanese brands such as Toshiba, Sony, and Panasonic produce TVs with this infrastructure system as well.
