Gross residential mortgage lending in Germany 2014-2023, per quarter
The value of residential mortgage lending in Germany declined notably in 2023, reaching the lowest quarterly value since 2014. In the second quarter of 2023, gross residential mortgage lending reached a value of 41 billion euros. The worsening economic conditions, higher interest rates, and the lack of affordable housing are among the factors leading to the decline in mortgage lending. Nevertheless, Germany is among the largest mortgage markets in Europe. More information on the Mortgage market in Western European countries can be found here.
