This statistic shows the helicopters designed for military use which have cruising speeds equal to or greater than 155 knots. The cruising speed of an aircraft is usually the speed at which it is most economic to fly, slightly faster than the speed which allows for its maximum range, but also slower than the aircraft's top speed. Of these helicopters, there is a massive drop in cruising speed between the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey in fourth place and the Boeing CH-47D/F Chinook in fifth place, with the Osprey having a cruising speed with a whopping 98 knots (or an additional 54%) on the Chinook's cruising speed of 170 knots.
Military helicopters currently in service with cruise speeds greater than 155 knots
This data displays the average cruising speed of the fastest military helicopters currently in use. The term "military helicopter" means helicopters designed for use by the military, but not helicopters solely used by military bodies. * Also includes models of the AW139M manufactured by both AgustaWestland and its parent organization, Leonardo-Finmeccanica.
** Also includes different models of the NH90 such as the NH90 NFH and NH90 TTH, as well as NH90 type helicopters manufactured by AgustaWestland.
