As of 2016, the alternative finance volume attributable to equity-based crowdfunding totaled approximately 12.3 million euros. Of the total amount, Austria attributed to 7.7 million Euros. Overall, only six central and eastern European countries had any form of equity based crowdfunding in 2016.

The source adds the following information: "This study gathered data from 344 crowdfunding, P2P lending and other alternative finance intermediaries across 45 countries in Europe, out of which 267 platforms are operating outside of
the United Kingdom. We estimate that this database captures 90% of the visible alternative finance market."
* The Central and Eastern European online alternative finance market includes transaction volumes from the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
