Cyberbullying seems to befall quite a lot of teenagers and may have a major impact on emotions.
As reported by YouGov, it was found that 44 percent of the respondents felt a sense of anger with the bully, while 42 percent reported that they felt ashamed, and 42 percent felt helpless or didn't know what to do. When asked about the results of cyberbullying, 42 percent of the respondents reported that they cried afterwards, 32 percent answered that they felt more negative about themselves afterwards, and twelve percent answered that they hurt themselves on purpose afterwards.
Reasons for not sharing episodes of cyberbullying
It seemed that children often did not report it to their parents or their guardians in the events of cyberbullying. According to a survey, 65 percent of the respondents stated that they did not report such episodes because they were ashamed and/or embarrassed. Another 35 percent answered, that they were worried about what their parents or guardians might do.
Further opinions
According to data published by Ipsos, 82 percent of the interviewed Italians declared that cyberbullying needs special attention. Additionally, it was found that 76 percent of the parents and/or guardians of children under the age of 18 believed that their children had never experienced or knew of cases of cyberbullying.
Only three percent of the respondents reported that their children experienced cyberbullying on a regular basis.
