Annual number of transactions with A2A scheme iDEAL in the Netherlands 2006-2023
Online transactions with iDEAL kept on growing in the Netherlands in 2022, reaching over 1.3 billion payments and picking up in growth after a slowdown in 2021. iDEAL is an interbank system, local to the Dutch market, allowing shoppers to use their bank account for online purchases. It is covered by all major Dutch consumer banks. In 2006, the number reached approximately 4.4 million payments. Subsequently, this increased to approximately 524 million in 2018. One preferred way of conducting money transfers in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands is by card. In 2016, Luxembourg had approximately 216 card payments per capita compared to 151 in Belgium and 232 in the Netherlands.
