In 2022, the number of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan examinations conducted in the Netherlands remained nearly unchanged at around 1,012,977 scans. Still, 2022 marked the third consecutive decline of the number of MRI scans. MRI is an imaging technique designed to visualise internal structures of the body using magnetic and electromagnetic fields which induce a resonance effect of hydrogen atoms. The electromagnetic emission created by these atoms is registered and processed by a dedicated computer to produce the images of the body structures.
