Among the top companies from Sweden, the internationally operating fashion retailer H&M accounted for the highest revenue by far as of February 2024. During its latest financial year, the company generated over 223 billion Swedish kronor, which was more than twice as high as the revenue of Axel Johnson Holding AB, which is a Swedish trade and service company.
Retail trade companies in the Nordic countries
H&M was not only the leading company measured by revenue in the Swedish retail trade industry, it also ranked first among all retail trade companies in the Nordic countries. Its revenue in the Nordic countries amounted to roughly 19 billion euros. Axel Johnson Holding AB came second, followed by Coop Danmark A/S.
Clothing expenditures in Europe
In 2021, Swedish consumers were the 12th-highest spenders when it came to clothing and footwear in Europe. That year, they spent an average of 930 U.S. dollars per capita on such goods. Other countries, including Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, typically spent a considerable amount more on clothes and shoes on an annual basis. In fact, the average consumer in Sweden spent less than any of its Scandinavian neighbors that year.
