The financial liabilities of households in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands in long-term loans from 2013 to the second quarter of 2020 (in euros per capita) varied per country. In 2018, the liabilities of Belgian households in long-term loans were worth approximately 990 euros per capita. In the second quarter of 2020, this number amounted to 1,270.7 euros per capita.
Between 2006 and 2016, the total volume of outstanding consumer credit decreased from approximately 45.6 million euros in 2006 to approximately 34.1 billion euros in 2016. In 2016, approximately 25 percent of Dutch respondents aged 18 years and older indicated they have a negative view on borrowing money, whilst 30 percent of respondents aged 12 to 18 years old in the Netherlands had a neutral point of view in the statement that loaning money for an expensive purchase should be possible.
